CAPE TO CAKE · CUSTOMER INFORMATION

Important Information & Product Disclaimer

Every Cape to Cake order is handmade with care. This page explains important information about allergens, handmade designs, edible decorations, transport, storage and other factors that may affect your order.

!

Please read before placing your order

If you or any person who will consume the product has a serious food allergy, please contact Cape to Cake before ordering so that we can explain the ingredients and cross-contact risks relevant to your order.

Nothing on this page is intended to exclude or limit any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable South African law.

01

Our Cake Studio

Cape to Cake is a home-based cake studio operating in Bellville, Cape Town.

Our cakes and sweet treats are prepared in a private production kitchen. We take care to maintain a clean, organised workspace and follow appropriate hygiene and food-handling practices throughout production.

02

Allergens & Cross-Contact

Our kitchen regularly handles common food allergens, including:

Gluten Dairy Eggs Peanuts Tree Nuts Soy

We take reasonable care to minimise unintended cross-contact, including cleaning work surfaces and equipment between production tasks where appropriate. However, because products are prepared in a shared kitchen, we cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from traces of an allergen.

Important: Customers are responsible for informing Cape to Cake of relevant allergies before placing an order and for communicating allergen information to anyone who may consume the product.
03

Halal Ingredients

Cape to Cake uses halal ingredients in our products.

This refers to the ingredients used and should not be interpreted as a claim that Cape to Cake itself holds formal halal certification.

04

Handmade Products & Design Variations

Cakes and decorations are handmade, which means small variations are part of the nature of a custom product.

Reference photographs, inspiration images and previous Cape to Cake designs are used as a design guide. Unless specifically agreed otherwise, they should not be interpreted as a guarantee of an exact replica.

Minor differences may occur in:

  • Colour shades
  • Placement of decorations
  • Flower or decorative arrangements
  • Fondant modelling
  • Piping patterns
  • Handmade toppers and details
  • Overall proportions

We will always aim to preserve the agreed theme, colour palette and overall appearance of the design.

05

Food Colouring

Edible colourants may include gel, powder, oil-based or airbrush colours depending on the design.

Deep or highly saturated colours may temporarily stain the mouth, tongue, teeth, hands or clothing.

Colour shades may also appear different depending on lighting, photography and individual screen settings. Exact digital colour matching cannot therefore be guaranteed.

06

Edible Prints & Images

Edible images are produced using food-safe edible printing materials.

Please be aware that colours printed onto edible sheets may differ slightly from images viewed on a phone, computer or other digital screen.

The final colour and appearance may also change slightly once the image is applied to buttercream, fondant or another cake surface.

07

Internal Supports & Non-Edible Decorations

Some cakes require structural supports or non-edible decorative components.

Depending on the design, these may include:

  • Dowels
  • Cake boards
  • Internal supports
  • Floral picks or barriers
  • Wires used in decorative work
  • Acrylic or MDF cake toppers
  • Other clearly non-edible decorations
Before serving: Please ensure that all non-edible decorations and structural components are identified and removed before cutting or serving the cake.
08

Fresh Flowers & Botanicals

Where a cake design includes fresh flowers or other botanicals, suitable barriers or preparation methods are used where appropriate to help prevent direct contact between non-food-safe plant material and the cake.

Some flowers and plants are not suitable for use on food products. Customers or florists supplying flowers should therefore ensure that suitable varieties are provided.

09

Collection, Delivery & Handling

Cakes are fragile products and must remain level, cool and secure during transport.

When Cape to Cake arranges delivery, care is taken to transport the order appropriately through our delivery arrangements.

Once an order has been handed over to the customer, recipient or venue, subsequent movement, handling, storage and environmental exposure are outside Cape to Cake's control.

Customers collecting their own cakes are responsible for providing a suitable vehicle and transporting the product carefully.

Transport tip: Cakes should normally travel on a flat, stable surface inside an air-conditioned vehicle rather than on a seat or a passenger's lap.

10

Heat, Weather & Outdoor Events

Cakes, buttercream, ganache, chocolate and edible decorations are sensitive to environmental conditions.

Heat, direct sunlight, wind, humidity, dust and insects can affect both the appearance and structural stability of a cake.

Wherever possible, cakes should be kept in a cool, shaded or air-conditioned environment and should not be displayed in direct sunlight.

If a customer or venue chooses to display a cake outdoors or in unsuitable environmental conditions, Cape to Cake cannot guarantee how the product will respond after it has been placed in those conditions.

11

Payments, Changes, Cancellations & Refunds

Cake orders are made specifically for each customer. Payment, cancellation, amendment and refund arrangements are therefore governed by Cape to Cake's applicable booking terms and refund policy.

Please review these policies before completing your purchase.

When placing an order
