The fastest way to order
If you are choosing one of our existing cake or sweet-treat designs, the easiest option is to order directly through the Cape to Cake website and customise the available size, flavour, filling and other options online.
For something completely custom, use our Custom Cake Order page so we can review your design requirements properly.
Ordering
How do I place an order?
For cakes and treats already available in our online shop, order directly through the website.
You can choose the available size, flavour, filling and product options before checking out securely.
For a completely custom design, use our Custom Cake Order page.
How far in advance should I order?
Standard cake orders generally require at least 72 hours' notice, subject to availability.
For detailed or fully custom cakes, we recommend ordering approximately 5–10 days in advance wherever possible.
Wedding cakes should ideally be finalised at least two months before the wedding date.
Do you accept last-minute orders?
Sometimes.
Last-minute orders depend on our production schedule, the cake design, available ingredients and whether custom decorations are required.
Availability is never guaranteed until the order has been confirmed and the required payment has been received.
Is an enquiry or quote enough to reserve my date?
No.
Discussing a date, sending an enquiry or receiving a quote does not reserve production space.
Your booking is confirmed only once Cape to Cake has accepted the order and the payment required for that particular booking has been received.
Payments
Do you require a deposit?
Cape to Cake generally operates on full payment before an order is confirmed unless a specific quotation, invoice or booking arrangement states otherwise.
Some qualifying wedding, corporate or larger orders may have a staged payment arrangement. If so, the payment schedule shown on that quotation or invoice will apply.
What payment methods do you accept?
Depending on the order, payment options may include:
- Secure website checkout
- Yoco payment facilities
- EFT where offered
- Private password-protected website checkout for certain custom orders
- International bank transfer for qualifying corporate clients where arranged
Is my booking confirmed before payment?
No.
Production space is limited and a date is not regarded as confirmed until the required payment has been received and Cape to Cake has confirmed the order.
What happens if our corporate head office pays from another country?
Where a corporate client's head office is outside South Africa, or payment will be made from an international bank account, an additional international transfer charge may be added to the quotation or invoice.
This is to cover SWIFT and related international banking costs.
The client is responsible for ensuring that Cape to Cake receives the full invoiced amount after charges from sending, intermediary, correspondent or receiving banks have been taken into account.
If banking fees result in Cape to Cake receiving less than the invoiced amount, the outstanding difference remains payable.
Pricing & Portions
How much do your cakes cost?
Pricing depends on the particular cake and options selected.
Factors may include:
- Cake size
- Design and decoration
- Flavour and filling
- Premium flavour or filling upgrades
- Toppers and custom decorations
- Fresh flowers where applicable
- Delivery and venue setup
Pre-designed cakes on our website display their starting price, with available upgrades calculated during ordering.
How many people does a cake serve?
Portions depend on the size of the cake and how it is cut.
| Cake | Dessert Portions | Smaller / Event Portions |
|---|---|---|
| 15 cm | Approx. 8–12 | Approx. 12–16 |
| 20 cm | Approx. 12–20 | Approx. 20–30 |
| 25 cm | Approx. 20–30 | Approx. 30–40 |
These are guides rather than guaranteed serving counts. Larger sizes and tiered cakes are available depending on the design.
Are premium flavours and fillings included in the displayed price?
Each product has a base price and the standard options included with that product.
Premium flavours, fillings or other upgrades are charged separately where applicable and are shown during website ordering or on your custom quotation.
Designs & Customisation
Do you make fully custom cakes?
Yes.
In addition to the cakes available in our online shop, Cape to Cake accepts fully custom cake requests.
Custom orders can be designed around your occasion, theme, colour palette and practical design requirements.
Submit a Custom Cake Request →Can you copy a cake exactly from a photograph?
Reference images are welcome, but we use them as inspiration rather than promising an exact replica.
Every cake is handmade, so reasonable differences in colours, piping, handmade decorations, flower placement and proportions can occur.
We aim to preserve the agreed overall theme and design direction.
Read our Handmade Product Information →Can I choose my own colours and theme?
Yes, where the particular design allows customisation.
For fully custom cakes, please send us your theme, colours and inspiration when submitting your enquiry.
Do you make edible-image cakes or branded treats?
Yes.
Cape to Cake uses edible prints for selected cake designs, cupcakes and branded corporate treats.
Customers supplying logos, photographs or other artwork should make sure they are authorised to use the material provided.
Flavours & Fillings
What cake flavours do you offer?
Available flavours depend on the particular product or cake range.
Popular options include flavours such as:
Additional or premium options may be offered depending on the product.
Can I request a specialised flavour?
Selected custom and wedding orders may allow additional gourmet or specialised flavour requests.
Availability and any surcharge will be confirmed before the order is finalised.
Allergies & Halal Ingredients
Do you cater for food allergies?
Please discuss any relevant allergy concerns with us before ordering.
Our kitchen handles common allergens such as gluten, dairy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and soy.
Although reasonable care is taken, we cannot guarantee a completely allergen-free environment because products are prepared in a shared kitchen.
Read our Full Allergen Information →Are Cape to Cake products halal?
Cape to Cake uses halal ingredients.
Flowers on Cakes
Do you use fresh flowers on cakes?
Fresh flowers may be used on selected designs where suitable.
Depending on the order, flowers may be supplied by Cape to Cake, by the client, or by the client's florist.
Fresh flowers are decorative rather than edible and need to be selected and placed carefully.
Read our Flowers on Cakes Guide →What alternatives do you offer to fresh flowers?
Depending on the design, alternatives may include:
- Handmade fondant flowers
- Wafer-paper flowers
- Silk flowers
Collection, Delivery & Setup
Do you offer cake delivery?
Yes.
Delivery is available at an additional charge and is calculated according to factors such as distance, travel time, cake size and the care required to transport the order.
View Delivery & Setup Information →Who handles Cape to Cake deliveries?
Cape to Cake currently uses our own delivery arrangements, including a private delivery contractor, depending on the order and destination.
Delivery is arranged according to the cake's size, structure and destination rather than through one fixed public courier service.
Can I collect my own cake?
Most standard birthday cakes and smaller orders can be collected by arrangement from Bellville.
The cake should be transported on a flat, stable surface in a cool vehicle and driven carefully.
Can I send my own Uber or courier to collect?
You may arrange another person or courier to collect where the order is suitable for collection.
However, once a collected cake has been handed over, Cape to Cake cannot control how it is transported, driven, handled or stored afterwards.
We strongly recommend using a vehicle and collection arrangement appropriate for transporting a fragile decorated cake.
Do all tiered cakes need venue setup?
No.
Venue setup is generally required when a cake is exceptionally tall, heavy or structurally complex.
These cakes may be transported as reinforced separate tiers and assembled at the venue for stability.
Whether setup is required will be confirmed before the order is finalised.
Wedding Cakes
How far ahead should I book my wedding cake?
We recommend finalising your wedding cake order at least two months before the wedding date, subject to availability.
Earlier enquiries are encouraged for popular wedding dates and more complex designs.
Do you deliver and set up wedding cakes?
Yes, where delivery or setup is required.
Particularly tall, heavy or structurally complex cakes may be delivered in separate reinforced tiers and assembled at the venue.
Delivery and setup are quoted according to the cake, venue and distance.
View Wedding Cake Delivery & Setup →Do you supply cake stands?
Cape to Cake is a bakery rather than an event-styling or equipment-hire company, so cake stands are not supplied as standard.
If a venue or planner is providing a stand, please make sure it is appropriately sized and strong enough for the cake.
Are cake toppers included with wedding cakes?
Toppers, MDF decorations, laser-cut pieces and acrylic decorations are not automatically included unless the particular quotation or product description states otherwise.
Corporate Cakes & Branded Treats
Do you accept corporate orders?
Yes.
Cape to Cake produces corporate cakes, branded cupcakes, cookies, cakesicles, cake pops and other customised sweet treats for business events, activations, launches, gifting and celebrations.
View Corporate Treats →Can you add our company logo?
Yes.
We can use customer-supplied logos and approved artwork for appropriate edible prints and branded products.
Please provide the clearest, highest-quality logo file available when requesting your quotation.
How much notice do corporate orders need?
Lead time depends on the quantity, product type, branding, packaging and delivery requirements.
Larger quantities and highly customised orders should be booked as early as possible so that ingredients, printing, packaging and production capacity can be secured.
Can an overseas head office pay our corporate invoice?
Yes, where international bank payment has been arranged.
An additional charge may be added to the invoice to cover SWIFT and related international banking fees.
Cape to Cake must receive the full invoiced amount. Any shortfall caused by sending-bank, intermediary, correspondent or receiving-bank charges remains payable.
Changes, Cancellations & Refunds
Can I change a confirmed order?
Possibly.
Whether a change can be made depends on how close the request is to your event date, whether production has started, and whether ingredients or custom decorations have already been purchased or made.
Additional charges may apply to approved changes.
Can I cancel my order?
Contact us in writing as early as possible.
Because our cakes and treats are made to order, cancellation does not automatically mean that the full amount paid can be refunded.
Work already completed and reasonable order-specific costs may need to be taken into account.
Read Cancellations, Refunds & Order Concerns →What should I do if something is wrong with my cake?
Contact us as soon as reasonably possible.
For perishable products, reporting the concern on the day of collection or delivery, or within approximately 24 hours where reasonably possible, gives us the best opportunity to investigate.
Please provide clear photographs and keep the remaining product where practical until we have responded.
Cake Care
How should I transport my cake?
Place the cake on a level, stable surface.
Use an air-conditioned vehicle when appropriate.
Avoid hard braking and sharp corners.
Angled seats are not suitable cake surfaces.
How should I store my cake?
Follow any instructions provided with your particular order.
In general:
- Keep the cake away from direct sunlight and heat
- Store it on a stable level surface
- Protect it from humidity and warm environments
- Refrigerate where the cake or filling requires it
Can I display my cake outside?
Cakes are sensitive to heat, sunlight, wind, humidity and insects.
Outdoor display should therefore be planned carefully. A cool, shaded or air-conditioned environment is preferable wherever possible.
Read our Heat & Outdoor Event Information →About Cape to Cake
Do you have a walk-in storefront?
No.
Cape to Cake operates as a home-based cake studio in Oakglen, Bellville and works by confirmed order rather than as a walk-in retail bakery.
Where are you based?
Cape to Cake is based in Oakglen, Bellville, Cape Town.
Collection details are confirmed for applicable orders.
